Roman arch channels hot spring, Roman Bath, Bath, UK

Description

At the heart of the Roman Baths in Bath, England, natural hot spring water still flows much as it did nearly two thousand years ago. The scene shows Roman ingenuity in stonework and arches, carefully designed to channel and contain the constant 46°C (115°F) thermal waters. The orange-brown stains mark the minerals that rise from deep underground, evidence of the spring’s enduring force. In antiquity, worshippers of Sulis Minerva gathered here, seeking healing and renewal in the sacred pools. Today, visitors marvel at the preserved engineering and history, though bathing is no longer permitted after the 1970s health discovery.
