Tolkien Door and Yew Trees

Description

St. Edward's Church is a medieval Church of England parish in Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire. It’s built on the spot of an old Saxon church and features a cool mix of architectural styles.

The north door of the church is a real standout, flanked by two ancient yew trees, and it’s become the most photographed door in the Cotswolds. There’s a fun rumor that J.R.R. Tolkien was inspired by it when he created the “Doors of Durin” in *The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.*
